Description: An unique property of aluminium extrusions is the possibility to shape the cross section to fit the actual purpose. If the loading is eccentric on the beam, the extrusion technique makes it possible to shape the cross section in such a way that the loading will act through the shear centre. Then there will be no torsion and the beam will be more stable. In this example the cross section can be changed in order to make the shear centre to fall below the loading point thus avoiding torsion. Furthermore the stability due to lateral-torsional buckling can be improved by changing the width of parts of the flange.
