Description: The orientation of an individual crystallite is defined by the position of its unit cell in space with reference to a coordinate system (A, B, C). The unit cell of the face-centered-cubic aluminium is represented by a cube. It is common and convenient to represent an orientation in the stereographic projection. This animation shows a step-by-step construction of how stereographic projection is used to describe the orientation of a crystal.
