Description: SIBM involves bulging of part of a pre-existing grain boundary, leaving a dislocation-free region behind the migrating boundary. Thus SIBM reduces the internal energy of the material by decreasing that component which was stored as dislocation energy. The characteristic features of SIBM are that the new grains have similar orientations to the old grains from which they have grown. This results in recrystallisation texture which is closely related to the deformation texture. This interactive animation schematically presents the process of strain induced grain boundary migration.
