Description: The surface condition of a machined part includes the geometric condition of the surface, such as geometric differences between a manufactured part and a geometrically perfect part, and the physicochemical condition of the surface, which is the nature of the part's surface layer. If we make a normal cut through a surface with a plane, we obtain a curve known as the surface profile. This animation shows four known geometric defects classified by the orders of magnitude: shape deviations, waviness, ridges and pull-outs.
