Description: This is a schematic image of Sea King rotor blade composite. Composite wings, tailplanes and rotor blades are increasingly displacing conventional aluminium equivalents. Two reasons why polymers have made dramatic inroads in aerospace applications are the great weight savings (leading to large savings in fuel usage) and increase in mechanical integrity, since the fatigue resistance of composite structures is much greater than metal alloy.
