Description: This image is an advanced simulation demonstrating neutron flux levels generated in the core of INL's Advanced Test Reactor during operation. Neutron levels are highest in the blue and purple areas, and lower in the orange and red areas. The ATR is a pressurized water test reactor that operates at low pressure and low temperature. The ATR is pressurized and cooled with water. The reactor core includes a beryllium reflector, which helps concentrate neutrons in the reactor core, where they are needed for fuels and materials testing.
