Description: This video lecture shows how the coordinate system for a stress tensor can be rotated through an angle θ onto a new (inclined) plane. Using a 2D element as an example, it is shown how the normal stress, σ and shear stress, τ acting on the inclined plane can be derived algebraically and also how these stresses vary with angle.
